Love Sign Blog Post #1 Introduction

Dear believer;

This will not be a fluffy blog. Together, we are going deep!

I have a great love inside of me. While I know a few things of love, everyone I encounter in this project will add their love’s story to this grand conversation. Flowers and blood; the gamut is vast.

As an aid to this dialogue about love I will photograph a sign of love, a “LOVE” sign, to visually express this week’s particular love topic. (Please see the first photo at the bottom). As a long-time builder of houses and structures, I plan to draw from this building acumen to building an eventual greeting card offering informed by this impassioned activity of photographing my love sign and penning its accompanying words; comment and let me know if that sounds cool?!

Together we will cover babies born, love found and lost, and PTSD soldiers.

All humans need love, and we all experience such a vast array of emotions and feelings which come under Love’s heading. It is my intention to make some sense of this array and to gift words of inspiration for courage and open hearted-ness in the face of love’s immensity. I wish for my readers to feel supported as they meet the rigor of love’s variety. I intend to write of love’s sublime joy and also of its acute darkness. I intend to write of love’s beauty and of it’s power to cause change. I intend to write of love’s light and of it’s shadow so that humanity may find some small welcome in the incandescent sparkling, and swirling cauldron that is love. I offer through my writing a safe haven which says; “wow, me too”… For love can be overtly sexual and it can be fallen snow delicate. There can be great passion between lovers, and there can be the subtle exchange between a boy and his bird. Love can build and it can inadvertently destroy. Love is a fierce, all-encompassing force that can take a man over a winter mountain, and guide a refugee mother to leave her ill baby behind.

I am deeply inspired. I have begun.

I will engage the public in my project, stopping people on the street to aid in expressing the vast color of love through my sign. A young couple holding hands is an obvious choice, but also a frustrated woman feeling kicked to the curb, lending her boot to the “love sign” at street’s edge. I plan love sign photo explosions and free falls, and in this way I may express all that love brings. The whole pageant of love expressed to hold all people who have loved, and triumphed, and lost. A love of country and a love of fish sticks. A love of law, and a love of Edelweiss in its alpine season. A love of tall buildings and the love of a new tiny hand on her mother’s breast. All of this encompasses the human experience and I propose to shed light, to offer comfort, and to gift welcome. Martin Luther King Jr, Gandhi, Mother Theresa and Rosa Parks, love of the truth, meet President Trump’s on camera kiss to his beloved son. The love of money meets charitable giving. I propose to cover the great potpourri and leave no one out. Not dog, nor chicken, not Queens nor crown itself, are exempt from love’s endless embrace and reach!

And so I build a home. A place where feeling shared can exist in harmony with love’s many tears. I build a bridge between the light and the darkness. Who has not lived love’s increase, but to see, too soon, it’s steady decline? Who has not unconsciously reveled in their mother’s touch, with some, only to have it withdrawn in anger? Or to have never felt such touch at all?

Dear reader, dear believer; lets shake it up!
